The Kapurthala town was founded by Rana Kapur who was a Bhatti Rajput. His presence can be traced back to the 11th century. But the present family of Patiala rulers belongs to Nawab Jassa Singh Ahluwalia’s family. The Ahluwalias had great impact in regions near the Sutlej and Bari Doab.
